Cast on enough stitches for the gauge times the circumference of the wearer’s head, minus approximately one to two inches of stitches. Join in the round, using a stitch marker to indicate beginning of the row. K2P2 for about an inch. Switch to stockinette, add back in the missing stitches every over the row, using knit into front and back. Knit evenly for 6-8 inches depending on the size of the wearer’s head.

Three stitches before the marker, SSK, K1, slip marker, K2Tog, continue the round. Continue to reduce by two stitches every fourth row for ten sets of reducing stitches, switch to reducing every third row. Switch to DPN when needed. Reduce to 14 stitches (about 35-36” following seam from front edge), K2tog around. Weave yarn end through remaining stitches twice and pull to closed. Weave ends into interior of hat and trim end.
