This is a fabulously written pattern that doesn’t over-complicate a sweater intended for a “big kid.”

That I couldn’t leave well-enough alone speaks more to my need to mess with things than to anything else (well, that and my boy is a “husky” so we needed some extra room to start with).

I added a pair of cables to the front and back from Viking Patterns for Knitting. I knit the body in the round, which I later regretted as I realized the weight of the cotton really needed the reinforcing of the seam. I went back and added side seams (I’d left purled seam stitches, so honestly, this wasn’t that big of a deal).

I added extra room elsewhere in the sweater just to keep thing proportional. The end result was a fairly big sweater, so added a turtle neck because it just seemed to go better with the other modifications.
