Notes

This style hat is the classic Vermont Moriarty Ski Hat. So glad Purl SoHo has the pattern!

Leave it to Dave, the class Vermonter to request this style for his Swim24 hat - hat #3
History here. And more of the story here. Image from here.

Using worsted weight but swatched a lot and decided I wanted a tight knit, so am using #5 needles. I remember these hats as having a tight gauge.

Also knitting for a large head but didn’t want it to be too big.

Using mcn worsted for the lining, so kept the stitch count the same.

Wanted to duplicate the thin stripes from the photo so guestimated. 17 rows then 2/4/2. Then 2 because the liner had a bigger gauge.

Measured the hat after completing the brim. I was afraid it was going to be too wide. 22”. Pretty perfect. Very happy so far.

I’d cast on 115 stitches and didn’t modify from the lining since that was a worsted weight too. I later realized that the lining worsted was a bit heavier than the Hudson, so it’s a bit loose, but not bad. I also forgot the purl row so the lining peaks out a bit.

Love the end result. Pretty sure it’ll fit Dave’s 24” head. I hope to get a picture of him in it.

This was so much fun to knit. I may have to make a ‘hers’ version for my sister.
