Notes

I am knitting with 2x fingering + alpaca bliss (start 50g+36g), using all my leftover bits and bobs.
Ribbing with 6mm, body and sleeves with 7mm.

I was looking for scrap projects, but found almost only blankets & shawls. Then I found the picture from Stine Hoelgaard’s “#restetrøjentopdown” and fell in love with that idea. And since I’ve been wanting to knit the Balloon Jacket for ages, it seemed like a match made in my yarn basket (aka cloud heaven cloud) yum

After knitting the bottom half, I think I might want to sew it together with the WS out. On that side the stripes blends together much nicer. Looks awesome imho.

Maybe add a button like slinsie.

Bottom part of body done. Dividing for fronts and back.
32 sts ea front.
Making sure to knit the stripes on the back and fronts the same, so the sweater ends up looking nice and not like unicorn-puke unicorn_face rolling_on_the_floor_laughing

In stead of sewing the shoulders together, I used 3 needle BO.

Picked up a bit more sts than pattern calls for.
135 + 25 (neck) + 135 = 295 sts
I picked up approx 3 sts for every 4 rows.

I picked up, and knitted the edge, before adding sleeves.
I’m knitting the ribbing along the edge in the same colours as the bottom ribbing. That calms the crazy down a bit smile
Hope I got enough yarn to make the ribbing on the sleeves in the same colours as well thinking_face

Edges all done. But it used up almost all of the greyish yarn. I’ll have to swap for another greyish for the ribbing on the sleeves.

Gonna knit the sleeves in the round in stead of flat and sewing on.

Using Kathryn Ivy’s guide to knitting (almost) jog-less garter in the round:

Knit the pattern as directed until you are ready to begin the first purled round of the brim. Remove your stitch marker that is marking the beginning of the round. Slip one stitch from left hand needle to right hand needle, purlwise with yarn in back. Replace stitch marker. Purl around (this will include the stitch that you slipped before). Remove your marker and once again slip a stitch from LH needle to RH needle. Replace marker. Knit around. You will continue in this manner, moving the start of the round over one stitch each time, until you have completed the number of garter ridges as directed by the pattern.

Edit: This method doesn’t work well when knitting with more than 1 colour each row.

Picked up 64 sts for right sleeve.

And there was just enough grey yarn to knit all ribbing in the same colours as the rest of the ribbing on the cardi heart_eyes

Now I “just” need to sew in all the ends = the downside of knitting with colours galore laughing
