Notes

Update: 6/2013 - Blake is 8 months old now and this blanket has become his “lovey”. I made 3 very small squares so Blake could have one for the car seat, one for diaper bag and one for the laundry.

6/1/2013 Update: This blanket has become little Blake’s lovey. I offered to make some small squares so he gets used to those and his mom and dad can have one for the car seat, one for the diaper bag, extra for the laundry. I’ve made two small squares and plan to make a couple more.

Using this yarn because it washed up so beautifully (washer/dryer!) in the last afghan I made. People thought it was wool. I’m not sure if Red Heart has made this yarn nicer or if I made the mistake (before) of judging it while the project was on the needles. I’ll be using it for these workhorse items that need to be laundered frequently.

  • I like the bumpy side of the cast on for this pattern, the pattern is written in a way that this happens anyway.

  • I like the bindoff done knitwise on the wrong side. Makes the cast on and bindoff look similar.

I’m using worsted, even though the pattern is for
DK. I’ll just adjust the number of stitches.
______
Cast on 114 stitches. (6 pattern repeats of 18 sts each, plus 3 garter stitches on each side)
_______

Made a second blanket for Carla and Bobby

Yet another blanket for Blake. He destroyed the first one when he was teething, but still loves the raggedy remains. Making another one a bit larger as he is 3 years old now.

Will use US 8 needles to make a bit tighter gauge. It does loosen up with washing.

Cast on 142 stitches. (7 pattern repeats of 18 sts each, plus 8 garter stitches on each side).

Work 8 ridges of garter then begin Old Shale stitch pattern, working 8 garter stitches at each side of blanket.

Note to self: Did not like the wide garter border. it doesn’t behave well with the scallop at the cast on edge of the blanket. Garter border up the sides should have had some short rows because it pulls in (row gauge is different than the lace pattern).
