Could not get a representative picture of this blanket. Unbelievable difference in the live project and the pics.
Our Thursday Night Sit and Stitch make 12” squares which are saved up for soldier blankets for wounded veterans.
I’m working on a crochet border around each square so they can be joined.
32 single crochets on each side and three in each corner. I’m placing a locking stitch marker in the center of each side and then at the quarter-way mark to make 8 sc between each marker.
8/5 - The black sc border is finished on each of 20 squares. Now I’m going to consider my hibernating Great American Afghan Squares to see if I can make them work for these blankets. It looks like I’ve got enough squares for 2 blankets, thanks to Alexis who has another two at her house! We’ve decided to save a couple of the GAAA squares for center motifs on future blankets.
One of the GAAA squares is too large and can be easily modified because they were made from the center out - I’ll just rip out a couple rounds until they are about 12” each. . . voila!
8/8/2014 - today I laid out the squares and determined where each block would be used for two blankets. I use scrap yarn and baste each square to the next in vertical strips, then I mark the top squares with masking tape and magic marker “top left” “top center” “top right”. I can then merrily attach the squares w/o getting them mixed up.
Got them all attached and did the border using two strands of yarn held together in reverse single crochet (aka Crab Stitch).

8/9/2014 Gave it a trip through the washer and dryer so its nice and clean for gifting.
