Notes

I first started on bigger needles than suggested for the yarn, partly because they didn’t have thinner interchangeable Cubics at the store, and I didn’t feel like going back to my metal needles (the Cubics are kinder on my hands). I was hoping it would work out, but my feet weren’t big enough. :p I started over on dpn’s instead, 3 mm Cubics. Cubics give me a tighter gauge than round needles, so for me it’s comparable to 2.5mm.

I knit much faster with dpn’s, but my hands aren’t happy when having to work with thin needles. 3mm is usually fine, but as with the gauge, the comfort is also more like 2.5mm needles with Cubics.

The recipe didn’t recommend dpn’s, but I wanted to give it a shot.

So far the dpn’s are working awesomely. Oh, and apparently someone needs to learn to read patterns thoroughly before starting a project. I’m moving along step-by-step and suddenly.. “Omg what the frack is a kitchener stitch?!?”

A quick google did the trick. Apparently “kitchener-stitch” basically means stitching two rows together, making the seam look like a regular knit row. Geez, just say so, darn it! Why give it such an intimidating name? XD That’s easy enough, done that many times before.

Sock one done. Did the ribbing with twisted knit stitches because I like that look better on ribbing. Used Jeny’s stretchy bind off (which took forever, I blame having to switch to round needles since I didn’t have smaller Cubics. Oh excuses excuses). Looks nice, but the leg part doesn’t fit me all that well. I’m considering ripping up that part and making the leg way shorter, if I can figure out how after a good nights sleep.

Sleep aquired, and mind made up. I’m just gonna go ahead and make the other sock according to the pattern, and maybe I’ll try my hand at shorter versions later. It’s still a darned nice sock.

Disregarding my lacking knowledge of knitting terminology, the sock was easy to knit, as the pattern was well written and easy to follow.
