4/27/2012 I made adjustments to the pattern as I went because I could not quite figure it out. When you begin to work on the top of the foot, the pattern says to put some stitches on a spare needle and then knit some. I couldn’t figure out how that would work and not create a loop inside the bootie, so I just knit the top of foot, then picked up stitches along the sides and kept going in the round for the whole pattern. I followed the basic number of rows and decreases in the pattern, though. At the end the pattern calls for the whole thing to be turned inside out and bound of with three needle bind off, which I did, but I should have just grafted the toe like a regular sock because twice it all fell apart for me when I was trying to turn it inside out. The first time I tried leaving it on the needles (impossible) and the second time I put it on safety pins, but I must have dropped a stitch trying to get it back on the needles. It is pretty fine, tight knitting, so losing it off the needles is a bit of a drama and it is hard to get back on. Overall, this is a super cute design, though, and the pattern is free after all.

I’m not overly keen on my choice of color-changing yarn for this, though, as I liked the coloration on foot one, but not as much on foot two. Really solids would have been the ticket.

4/16/2012: This is very fun so far! Cute and small. Who knew knitting for babies could be so fun. I’ve always shunned it in favor of knitting for adults.
