Lovely, lovely pattern.

Used 2.5 and 3mm circs and kept to roughly same colour scheme. Used a provisional cast on so as to have a lining to the band as it’s a bit parky this time of year in Ottawa.

Once again, added a ponytail gap by using same technique as an afterthought heel. I

• knit 16 stitches on spare yarn in the right location
• once the hat is blocked, transfer the stitches onto needles and unpick the spare yarn
• cast off the bottom row with a semi stretchy bindoff (e.g. yarnover every other stitch)
• for the top row, knit one purl one for three rows, each time stitching alternate ends into the adjacent stitches (to bind down the flap)
• bind off the top row with a stretchy bind off (e.g. yarn over ever bind off stitch).

I figured out this approach for another hat, where I had a fox and wanted my ponytail to be the tail, and now find it so practical. My hair gets less static-y and it’s less in the way when I put my parka hood up. (and my cat steals all my hair elastics, but so far hasn’t moved on to hat-lifting.)
