Notes

I initially passed this cardigan by in Vintage Shetland, but EvaL8’s version was so gorgeous I had to add it to the queue. It’s been an enjoyable knit and I really love the finished cardigan.

Modifications

I had three main mods - making overall cardigan shorter, narrower sleeves, and knitting the sleeves in the round with the body. The sleeves took a bit more thought, so have detailed here.

I omitted the 2nd in chart increase to sleeves. As I also wanted to knit in the round with the body, and wanted the final graft between front and back to ideally come in a natural place in the chart repeat, I mapped out the sleeve decreases in Excel. This was also useful as the sleeve decreases were often different as the shaping for the body on the same row (which I didn’t modify). Ann Kingstone’s Hedgerow pattern was a great resource in planning this approach. Essentially, once I joined the sleeves to the body at armhole divide, I decreased each sleeve every row for 7 rows, then every other row until I got to the last 6 rows - which were once again decreased every row. From armhole divide top of shoulder measures 20.5cm on my cardigan, and I’m really happy with how the sleeves turned out. I’d definitely do the same approach again.

I backed the button bands to ensure a neat line. Steeks were cut, then reinforced and blanket stitched down.

Trimmings

Main buttons are Skye Porcelain Buttons on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/SkyePorcelainButtons
Backing buttons are recycled stash.
Ribbon covering steek is from Textile Garden: http://www.textilegarden.com/

Photographs
As usual, tried to photograph the bits that I’m nosy about on other people’s projects.
