Notes

I was going through my ‘interesting artifacts’ folder and found an image of this back seam treatment for knitted stockings. I couldn’t resist puzzling it out. I have seldom seen an 18 stitch center back seam for historic stockings, but this one is kind of fun. It is fairly easy and breaks up the boredom of knitting the long leg of knee-hi (or above) stockings.

Someone found the missing ‘link’ to the original artifact. Hurray!! http://www.fashioningtheearlymodern.ac.uk/workshops/works...

This yarn knits up more like a sock yarn than a sport weight yarn. I would suggest a sock yarn for a project like this one, unless you want a really dense stocking.

First stocking done, and the text part of the pattern written and charts almost prettied up. Guess now I need to find some testers!

the second picture is a picture of the original artifact. If anyone has any info on the original, please let me know!!

Found the info, found the testers, and am knitting matching garters just for fun.
