My google site is down, but contact me if you can’t find this pattern on Rav…….

I saw a medieval illustration that showed a 13th century woman wearing green and white striped socks. I don’t know if hers were knit or not, but mine are, and I’m making a second pair ‘cause the first was such fun!

The first pair is done in 10 row stripes with handspun from Anthony’s (the sheep) first year fleece for the darker color and his second year fleece for the lighter color. Handspun to 15 wpi for 2-ply. Shaped calf for my very large legs and shaped common heel. Round toe. These stockings are a little loose, but wear wonderfully well and are nice and warm.

Second pair in the works and the pattern has been tweaked to get the looseness out. This pair done in Sheep Shed Studios mixed blacks roving for the dark and white/black mix for the light. I loved making the marled yarn, and am enjoying making the second set of stockings. Who would have thought? I usually hate making seconds of anything.

I’m typing the pattern up and will have it up on the Grenewode site soon.

pattern is up!:

I have a picture tutorial for the three needle bind off used in this pattern on my Flickr account. Screen name is AngierAnne.

Errata!! The numbers for picking up stitches around the heel flap are missing in the .pdf. You should pick up and knit 24 stitches along the first edge of the heel flap and 25 along the other.
