June 10th:
No seaming - this is my kind of project!
And I have a new yarn that I would like to try, in finewool-alpacka-angora, so this will be a very warm sweater. Good thing I will be using large needles.
Gauge fits surprisingly well (yes, I did swatch!)
Since I am an incessant pattern alterer, I could not help doing a broken rib for hemline instead:
Knit all right side rows.
Wrong side rows: Slip one wyif, (p1, k1) repeat to last 2 sts, p1, slip one wyif, turn.
(After this I will try to be more obedient to the pattern… planning to make long sleeves though. Maybe broken rib around neckline? But that should be all! Now let’s go.)
June 11th:
I crossed stitches at the join. Front stitch over back stitch. This is to avoid all the strain lying on one single strand of yarn.
June 16th:
Almost at the sleeve inset - a lot of stockinette in this one!
June 17th:
Working the top front before top back, since I am planning on binding off the front with the back decrease rows. Sort of like the heel flap of a toe-up sock.
June 18th:
Body is done! I think the “shoulderseams” turned out ok. Continued with the neckline; first picking up, then a purl round, then broken rib for a few rounds, and ended with a couple of rounds of regular 1:1 rib to hold the edge together. I was aiming for a rounded neckline at front, so I didn’t do the centered decreases that were recommended in the pattern.
I picked up less stitches though at the bottom front of the neckline, to have a chance at avoiding the neckline being floppy.
Tried it on. Hmm. Maybe I could have used a bit larger size? But it needs blocking of course. Still happy!
Now to sleeves!
June 27th:
Weaved in all ends. I think I made sleeves full length. After blocking we will know.
Will rip a few rounds from neckline though - it pulls in too much.
July 7th:
Blocked, fitted and photographed!
Not sure if I should make it a bot longer, or re-block the body wider. But, using it for now. Neckline, warmth and yarn is wonderful!
