Notes

Finished! And I’m happy with the result. I made the smallest size so it fits me a bit more closely than the original; this is the look I wanted…

It took 15 balls main colour - Rowan gave me a £20.00 voucher to compensate for their error!
I narrowed the sleeves at the wrist, but had to add extra shape to the sleeve head before it would fit the armhole.
The tightly twisted single ply of this yarn breaks very easily so I used crewel wool to stitch it up.

27 September
So… the back and one sleeve have used over seven balls - about 7.25 I guess.
At least 15 balls needed, but I suspect the neck ribbing will take a lot - so 16 probably!
(I’ll add here that my tension is correct.)
And half the fairisle has used 5gm yarn!

25 September
It’s not only the fair-isle quantities that are wrong - the back has taken 4.5 balls of main colour; the front and the 10cm of neckline ribbing will probably take another 5. Leaving just over I ball for two sleeves!
I bought 5 more yesterday while the same dye lot was on the shelves.
I’ve started a sleeve next and the half the fair-isle has now taken 5 gms!
Once I’ve got the amounts more accurately I’ll contact Rowan…

19 September
Back ribbing and fair-isle done.
I cast on with Richmond, using the thumb method, and then knit the first right side row with Nidd before starting the ribbing. This makes a nice “tip” to the edge.
The seven fair-isle rows took a guesstimate 15 yards - so 15 more on the front and the sleeves.
Probably about 50 yd total - and the pattern tells me I need three balls. Something wrong here!

17 September
I’ve gone down a needle size to get the correct tension.
The pattern calls for three balls of the first contrast, but as there are only seven rows of fairisle at the lower edges of the garment and sleeves I can’t imagine that I’ll need that much. I bought only two…
I’m planning to “tip” the edges with the third contrast - used for the motif.
