Provisional cast on using crochet chain to use later to pick up stitches for waist band.
Cast on 135 st for waist instead of 150 as in pattern as I like to wear my skirts higher. Knit 6 rows. Increased 4 st on rows 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 (mimicking darts, like when sewing garments - inc 2 stitches centre back, 2 stitches centre front. Total of 170 st.
Continued knitting until just below hips.
Then decreased 4 st at sides k2tog, on rows 1,4,9,12,13. Total 150 st. Resulted in too much shaping before pleats. In hindsight should have decreased evenly along rows, instead of at sides. Have a tulip shape skirt! Might improve with blocking.
Make sure that by the time you get to pleats that number of stitches is in multiples of 10, so you can follow instructions in pattern.
Knitting pleats and think I need more wool!
Chose lace cast off, knitting 2tog into front of stitches, to hopefully minimise curling. (Tried Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off, but that didn’t look right.)
Waist
Transferred stitches from crochet chain to needle. Knit a purl row to define transition between waist and skirt. Knit 9 rows, then 1 purl row, knit another 9 rows. Folded it over at purl row to wrong side.
Grafted the casing to the wrong side by whipstitching each live stitch to a purl bump using this link which is no longer available. http://nakeidknits.com/nakeidknits/post/Black-Skirt-Waist...

As this pattern used a provisional cast on, see this video for joining a provisional cast on to live stitches https://youtu.be/TkZ9b5B5CCw?si=IWD1CLjUd720Q5Hj
Also see how to pick up provisional stitches from crochet chain and transfer to circular or other needle in preparation for the above method https://youtu.be/w1ock1k8zWk?si=0FlKiYRWnlxWoPfR
Or could use technique in this video below - by knitting a cast on edge with live stitches

Finished the skirt with only 60cm of yarn left!
Quickly pulled in threads so I could wear it that evening to a stand up drinks party - ideal situation for a knitted skirt, rather than sitting at a desk all day.
Blocked and what a difference - photos 3-5 before blocking.
