I have a 23.5” head; I’m working the 96-st size, at approx. 4.5 sts/in on the 3.25 mm needles.
I don’t love the rolled stockinette hem (I don’t find them as comfortable to wear), so I’m going to leap right into the brioche rib.
Uhh. I was going to knit the first few rounds on smaller needles, but got distracted and just… didn’t. Oops. I think it will be fine regardless so I’m not ripping back. I think I will work a couple of extra pairs of rounds on the brim section, though, before starting the patterned part.

Just recording that I did the long-tail cast-on in pink, and then went straight into the set-up round (grey) and then worked 3 pairs of brioche rounds (i.e., 6 rounds total) before officially starting the main chart. Worked the centred decreases with the traditional 5-into-1 method — lots of slipping back and forth, but I like the result better than the method in the pattern
Have completed the 3 sets of the main chart -- now to work some plain brioche for a while.

Debated making this into a slouchy hat, but I weighed my yarn and realized if I kept it at a more fitted length, I would have enough leftovers for a whole second hat. This is lovely and squishy and bouncy and probably wouldn’t have draped much as a slouchy hat anyway.
