Such a satisfying mandala pattern. I have experimented with a few differing mandala techniques, mainly wall hanging projects. This pattern by HelenShrimpton, is so far the richest, most fulsome, full of largess.
But after so many years of crochet my hands badly affected now. So starting this using a glove and after few weeks finding if I pace myself, my hands are not suffering. It’s mainly the friction of the yarn on my skin, but the bptr’s (etc) get to me too. Relaxing the hand to almost limp as I work also helps. Softly softly!
This project won’t be hung as wall art. At Part 6 it’s already huge & as some 18 or more parts are hinted at for the final pattern, I imagine it will be too unwieldy to mount and hang. The subtropical climate here, exacerbated by biosphere warming, makes it too hot to be useful on the bed. I’ll have to think of a way it can be displayed. Any suggestions welcomed.

Into Part 8 now. Have made a few adaptations of my own, such as blsc rows, instead of just sc, to create more definition of color lines and a looser, lacier overall density. As it’s such a noisy colorful thing I’m calling it, provisionally,“Tashi Deli” the Tibetan greeting meaning ‘Happy Day“, recognizing the Tibetan color combos I’m use.

Part 8 finally complete. Had to leave it for a few weeks as my hands were suffering. But ever onward, Part 9 zipping along. Such a gaudy thing, perhaps I should rename it “Fiesta”. But who knows how the final result will turn out, so I’ll just hold naming it until then. HelenShrimpton has published Part 16 already, so I have a way to go to catch up, inspired by the beauties posted on the Facebook CAL site by others further along than I am. It’s definitely an heirloom.

As I am living in a tiny space after tornado ripped my studio abode apart, this project was too large to take to Part 18, so I’ve completed it at Part 13 & added a bit of my own trim. Not sure if I’ll make a wall hanging of it yet. Last photo is it Photoshop collaged onto a better background than my confined space allows. Entering it into Local District Show this week, should sjzshuzz up the doilies & tea cozy section. Renamed it, now calling it “Fiesta” for the hot Mexican palette, as it’s more kick- yr-heels-up frothier & spicier than the Tibetan tempo.
It looks amazing and I can’t believe I actually did this, Many thanx to clever Helen Shrimpton and her wonderful talent.
