Instructions say to work in texture stitch for eight rounds and then to work the decrease and to repeat the decrease every eighth round. That means the decreases are always on round one of the pattern.

After the final decrease, it says to knit 7 rounds even in pattern, ending with round three. This is a four round repeat, which means that if I knit 7 more rounds, I will be on round four. Ignore the seven more rounds bit, and end on round 3 - the seventh round.

Further, for the first mitt, the instructions then have you work the lace pattern for the hand and place thumb stitches on hold on round 14 of lace pattern. Then the next round says to work round 14. Don’t. Work round 15.

Likewise, if you are using the recommended knitted cast on for the hand, you will need to do so on the wrong side of the work, from the final worked stitch of round 14, or the yarn will be in the wrong place. Or, you can use a half hitch cast on.

I bound off the mitts in K1P1 rib, and the thumbs with a knitwise Icelandic bind off.

If I had written this pattern, I would have made the decreases on the cuff match the stitch pattern, instead of disrupting them. If I were to make them again, I would do that. By the time I realized it, though, I didn’t want to undo all of my work on the first mitt.
