The heel and instep are knit first, with separate shaping for left and right foot, and for the shape of your foot. From the provisional cast on, the rest of the sock is knit heel up.

The pattern has variations for plain and stripes. It also includes some nifty tricks for perfect stripes, and to perfectly divide the yarn into 2 portions, to use up all of your yarn.
