Why murder on the moors? I have to admit I’ve found knitting a sweater at this gauge a bit tortuous, and the sweater’s first outing was to hike to a remote and ancient stone circle on Dartmoor.
Fair bit of swatching - had to go down to a 2.25mm for body to get width gauge and I’m still off with the row guage, may have to add a few rows here and there to avoid a truncated sweater :-)
As you can probably guess from the chart & swatch, I’m trying my hand at a Sara Lund-style ‘the Killing’ snowflake motif for the yoke, although not aiming to copy the style of her iconic sweater at this gauge.
Week 1: have only managed to do the bottom ribbing. It’s been a busy week and I got distracted - often. My plan is to start now (spring) to be assured of having a sweater by autumn…I seem to be on track if unambitious!
June 1st - has been on hold due to the distraction of various shawl projects and a pair of socks…
Have done a few rows this weekend and am past the decreases at around waist level. Not rapid progress but still on track for next winter :)
Mar 2014 - have now been knitting this for a year. Am just about approaching the yoke. Here’s the problem - the type of sweaters that I like to wear the most are fairly fine-knit, with a lot of plain stockinette. A quick peek at my projects will tell you that what I like to knit are smaller, but more elaborate projects. I must forge ahead to have the satisfaction of wearing this but I confess I am bored…
Aug 2014 - still knitting, but the end is in sight. I must say I’ve enjoyed knitting the fairisle yoke of the sweater a lot more than the plain body, and I’m approaching the finish line…only took 18 months!
Finished! Thank goodness for that. It fits really, really well. The wool is quite itchy against the skin (I expected that to some extent but had fantasised about it softening a bit with blocking). I’m really pleased with my snowflake chart and how that turned out.
