Finished with shell buttons gifted by my friend Louisa.
Worn in top photos with a brooch containing hair from my long-departed relative, Rebecca (or Roberta) Barton, who met her demise aged 24 in 1817.

I have worked with the DK version of this yarn before and found it nice to work with…I think it’s a good match for the pattern and will be a nice soft colour for summer. It’s 50% alpaca and 50% merino so is very soft and has a slight ‘halo’.
Swatch - unusually, my gauge is the same as the pattern with the needle suggested. it gives quite a loose, drapy fabric but I think that’s going to work OK.

So I completed the whole of the back but had made a mistake with the decrease instructions.
I did realise this but thought I could work it out.
The resulting body would be extremely fitted and as a result not really be worn closed - ever.
I decided to bite the bullet and unravel about 4 days’ (pretty intense knitting days with long train journeys!) work :(

Back is re-done and the fit is much better. I added four rows to get the length I wanted before the ribbing.
One sleeve is almost done as well - I’m doing it on a size 8 circular (so slightly tighter gauge than the body) and adding a few extra rows for length (so instead of spacing by 9 rows, spacing decreases by 9, 10, 9, 10, 9 rows, etc.) This was partly because I have a fixed circular perfect for the job without the need to magic loop, and partly because the gauge for the body is very loose and fluffy and I could see myself catching the sleeve and pulling a thread very easily.

Blocking! Just need to sew in a couple of ends and add buttons :) Used exactly 8 Skeins so only 822.4 Yards
Finishing: I sewed bias binding behind the ribbing where the buttons are attached. It is invisible when worn but made for a nice firm edge and a better fabric to attach the buttons onto.
