Had a coupon for 50% off the yarn.
It’s a little tricky trying to figure out how to join the socks & then move them between the needles. But I practiced with a smaller number of stitches, and I think I understand now.
2/15/14 I started for real today. Cast in and gave about 1/2” of ribbing done. The time I put in yesterday was well-spent.
2/19/14 it’s going well. So far, I have managed not to knit the 2 socks together. I believe that it’s bound to happen at some point!
2/22/14 I have finished the 4” cuff. Brian would not like these as short as pictured, so I will add 2” plain st st before beginning the heel. Oops…looked ahead to the heel section, and realized these socks are being knit right side out. So my st sts will need to be purls instead of knits. Luckily, I had only done a couple of rows, and it was easy enough to tink back.
2/23/14 boy, did I mess up the heel big time! I have worked my way back to where I finished the decreases. Now I need to watch the video more carefully to understand the increases.
…and later on the 23rd: completely frogged. Back to square 1.
2/25/14 I figured out the problem I was having with the heel increases. I really had no idea at what point I was supposed to be picking up. I was guessing, and coming up short in joining to the placed marker.
To solve this problem, after completing each knit row, I placed a marker at the beginning and end of the row. I did not have enough “real” markers, so I used short pieces of pipe cleaner. I think small safety pins would work, too, and I will buy some before my next pair of socks.
The heel came out much better, and now I’m on to the foot.
2/27/14 done! I’m not crazy about the heel seams, but I’m sure the next pair will be better.
