Notes

April 1, 2024: In the past I have used 2.5mm needles for Kroy Socks. However this yarn seemed to be happier with smaller 2.25mm needles.

So, LTCO 72 sts on 3.0mm needles. Transferred immediately to 2.25mm needles and knit the sock with it. Leg - 6.5” = 20 rows of ribbing followed by 60 rows in (k3, p1) pattern.

Starting at the end of the row, transferred a purl stitch from the back needle to the front needle on magic loop. Now I have 37 sts on the front (instep) needle and 35 sts on the back (heel) needle. Worked the front needle in the (k3,p1) pattern.

I have an odd number of sts for the heel. A Google search led me to this article that helped.

Heel: Row 1: Knit __ stitches.
Row 2: * Slip one as if to purl, purl one, repeat from * until one stitch remains, slip one as if to purl.
Repeat the above two rows 18 more times, for 19 repeats total or 38 rows

I am trying a new heel - the Modified Dutch Heel which is a combination of the traditional Dutch heel and a traditional Round heel.

(35 heel flap sts divided into 12 + 11 + 12).

Start working the heel turn on Row 39 of the heel flap. This first part is a Round heel with an odd (11) number of middle sts. Mark the middle of these center 11 sts. We will do a round heel until the part between the turns is 11 + 2 = 13 sts wide.
Row 39: k12, k5, k center st, k1, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 40: sl1, p4, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 41: sl1, k5, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 42: sl1, p6, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 43: sl1, k7, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 44: sl1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 45: sl1, k9, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 46: sl1, p10, p2tog, p1, turn.
This takes us to 13 sts in the middle, and 7 sts at each end. Now we will switch to the Dutch Heel.
Row 47: sl1, k11, ssk, turn. No k1 after ssk.
Row 48: sl1, p12, p2tog, turn. No p1 after p2tog.
Continue until all side sts are reduced and you are left with the middle 13 sts, ending with a WS row.

Pick up sts.
sl1, k5, k center st (mark it), k6, pick up 19 to 20 sts, knit instep in pattern, pick up 19 - 20 sts and get back to the middle of the heel.

These socks are for my son. He wears US 11-1/2 to 12 size shoes. His foot measures 11”. Starting toe decreases when the foot measures 9.25” from the heel.

Rounded Wedge Toe:
Starting with 72sts.

(Decrease, Knit two rows) repeat 4 times. This adds 12 rows. 28 sts remaining on each needle.
(Decrease, knit 1 row) repeat 4 times. Adds 8 rows; 20 sts remaining on each needle.
Decrease every row until 12 sts remain on each needle. This adds 4 rows.
Kitchener close.
Tow decreases span 24 rows.
