July 17, 2024: It’s a gift fir Linda on her 60th birthday. Finished knitting on July 29.
I love Martina Behm’s designs. This is my first time making one of their patterns. Using yarn from deep stash.
Starting with the solid color - 12 teeth including set up.
Variegated yarn - 30 teeth
Total - 42 teeth
I was helped by comments from knitters who have made this pattern before me. Thank you to all of you! These are the things that helped me.
At the very beginning (before getting used to the pattern) I put a locking stitch marker to identify the right side of the knitting. With the RS facing, the teeth are to my left.
The increases always happen on the opposite end of the teeth, except on Row 7, where they are worked on both ends.
On every repeat, I placed a marker after the 1st kfb on Row 1. So the marker is placed after 2 sts. The kfb increases on Rows 1 - 6 happen only on one side of this marker. Other knitters have mentioned putting the marker between the kf and the kb sts but I found that to be a little fiddly.
On each repeat you know you are on Row X based on the number of sts before the marker. At the end of Row X, X=1 to 8, you will have X+1 sts before the marker on the non-teeth straight edge.
Row 7 is RS row. At the beginning Row 7, there will be 7 sts before the marker. I took the marker off when knitting Row 7. This helped me to remember to increase a stitch at the (teeth) end of Row 7.
There are 6 sts at the end of the “setup tooth”. Every additional tooth adds a net of 4 sts to the total stitch count. Thank you linda445 for the stitch count.
Row 8 is the bind off row. To ensure that I was on track, I counted the sts on the needle after every bind off row. If N represents the number of teeth (staring from the set up tooth), the number of sts on the needle at the end of the 8th row of every repeat is equal to:
2 + 4N, N=1 for the setup tooth, N=2 for the first tooth of the body, etc.
I used this method by ChainmailleRose to tighten the inner corners of the teeth. Don’t knit the very last stitch of each tooth’s bind-off. Slip the last stitch purlwise to the right needle, slip the stitch over it.
The Sweet Georgia yarn is thicker than the Alegria. So I knit the Sweet Georgia on US 5 and the Alegria on US 4.
I used a slightly loose regular bindoff using US #5 needles (3.75mm).
Yarn used:
445 yds of variegated (all used up)
13.4gm of solid color
Measurements Blocked (in inches):
Total 42 teeth
Length - 68” x 45” x 27.5” (3 sides of the triangle)
Width at the widest part - 13”
