August 18, 2017: Measured yarn. It’s 48g. Following cleverknits Turkish Bed Socks notes and mods closely.
Cast on - There are no seams and so you don’t need the two 18” length of yarn to be set aside. Cast on 30 sts using long tail cast on with Addi #2 needles, which is really a US 2.5 at 3mm.
Increase row - did k5 instead of k11. Total 36 sts (instead of 48 sts) after increase row.
Heel flap - following MsArcher’s project here I worked the heel flap just as she did:
After working 13 rows of stockinette, I did this:
Row 1 (RS): Knit to end.
Row 2 (WS): P24, wrap & turn.
Row 3 (RS): K12, wrap & turn.
Row 4 (WS): P12.
Row 5 - 14 - work stockinette on the middle 12 stitches ending with a WS row.
Used this this video for help with Wrap & Turn.
And here is a video on how to pick up the wraps.
Row 15 (RS) - k12, pick up & knit 6 sts evenly from the side of the heel flap. Turn.
Row 16 (WS): p18, pick up & purl 6 sts evenly from the side of the heel flap. Turn. (At this point there are 12 held sts + 24 middle sts +12 held sts = 48 sts total sts on the needle)
The 12 sts on either side are still being held as is; they will be worked next.
Row 17 (RS): k23, ssk (working the wrap stitch this one time only)
Row 18 (WS): p23, p2tog (working the wrap stitch this one time only)
Row 19 (RS): k23, sssk (note the double decrease)
Row 20 (WS): p23, p3tog (note the double decrease)
Repeat Rows 17 - 20 until all 12 + 12 = 24 held stitches have been incorporated. 24 sts at the end of section 5.
Cast on Instep - Followed pattern as written. The distribution of sts on 3 dpns was 19/18/19. I used one circular needle and magic loop method instead of 3 dpns. So I placed a stitch marker at the (/) points above so as to notionally separate the sts on 3 dpns. I have 27 sts on each needle of magic loop. Total 56 sts.
Instep edging - followed pattern as written.
Foot - I knit 43 rounds of stockinette.
Toe shaping - Rearranged the stitch markers for 14/28/14. Followed pattern as written. Used this video for Kitchener’s stitch.
Used 38g of yarn for the pair. The modifications by cleverknits makes it more like a no-show sock rather than a slipper.
Aug 22, 2017 - Finished. Blocking later today.
I made this for a 9.5 inch foot. It fits my daughter’s US shoe size 9 feet quite well. The slipper turned out 9 inches long unstretched, before and after blocking. The toe decrease is exactly 2 inches long (unstretched). The rest of the toe adds another 0.5 inches.
Notes for next time
-- For the foot I would knit fewer rounds (maybe 40 instead of 43) for a snugger fit.
-- I might go down one more needle size to make for a denser fabric and a snugger fit.
-- I need to find a way to make the heel flap join neater without having to bind-off and mattress sew the two ends.
-- I will also try this this video on Kitchener’s Stitch Without Ears.
This pair is more like a no-show sock. My daughter says she loves it. YAAAY! I prefer the other purple pair I made as it is more like a slipper rather than a sock.
