Lessons learned

  1. don’t forget to put the rods over the front and back beam. That’s the flat ones, the round ones are the warp and cloth beam
  2. twill requires a closer sett than plain weave
  3. check your threading before tying on to the front apron rod (when warping front to back)
  4. a multicolored warp needs to be wound in order if you want to warp back to front
  5. to beat gently (see lesson 2), loosen the tension a bit, and beat on a closed shed. Then place until you feel a little resistance.
  6. I prefer moving both handles for the next treading than changing only those that need changing, the latter takes more thinking
  7. Use a floating selfedge on twills. They can be added after warping. Use curtain clips, s hook and a baggy of sand. Wind the thread on a bobbin card.
