I LOVE this hat, but I made some mods so it would work with my big gauge and one skein!

My gauge was very big with Vintage in garter st (about 17 sts on a 5), so I made the medium size, casting on 96 with a German twisted cast on.

I used the size 5 for the ribbing, then 6 for the rest of the hat. My big head is 23” and this hat is nice and loose, but not quite falling down my face--just what I wanted.

I made MANY mods to the pattern after reading others’ warnings about running out of yarn.

Mods:

Section 2 - did not do the 1st K1 round.

Section 3 - 6 rows only of pattern.

Section 4 - 6 rows only of pattern.

Crown - On the first decrease round, I did the K5 then decrease all the way around.

I did the next 4 pattern rows only one time (did not work rows 5-8).

I did not work rows 16-17.

All else as written! Hat is still plenty slouchy and I had a tiny ball of yarn left.
