First impressions:
This thing is practically making itself! It’s been a few months since I made a blanket this wide, though. 240 stitches can feel like it takes a long time. But just two rows each makes the color changes come really fast, and that keeps it really interesting, not to mention the fact that it’s Lucy’s blanket. Her stuff is SO inspiring!!
17 Jan Update:
Still plugging away on this. Some nights I don’t get time to work on it, but usually I can crank through at least 2 rows -- but that’s about it. I’ve got 21 more color changes until I’m through one full course of the original, but I don’t think that will make it as long as I want it. My intention at that point is to simply start repeating, with a very slight amendment since the blanket starts with pomegranate and plum and ends with plum and pomegranate. Combining that many rows of those dark-ish colors would throw off the balance. So we’ll see.
30 January Update:
Finished the last row of the body of the blanket today, or at least of the row-for-row copy. It’s about two thirds the length of a queen size bed, so I’m going to keep adding to it so that it ends up being bedspread size. Just finished off the first skein of Pomegranate. There is still a LOT of yarn left over.
FINAL REFLECTION: Boy, is it awesome to have this done! It took me 3 full months to get back to it to weave in the ends -- but when I finally got to it, it was just one evening’s worth of work. So silly to have put it off so long!
Pulled it out of the wash -- it is REALLY nice and soft! The colors brightened up so much! I am so so so happy that I made this! What a sense of accomplishment!
Note about yarn requirements: This blanket can easily be made from 1 skein each of the 17 different colors in the “Lucy pack” from WoolWarehouse.com. I wanted mine to be big enough to cover my queen-size bed, so I used more like 1.75 skeins of each color. The thing is, there are SO many things you can do with the leftovers, I haven’t regretted this yarn choice at all. People can poo-poo acrylic all they like, but it’s sturdy, cheap, and utterly easy to care for.
