Bulb - had this pattern queued since early last year and I had cast on previously, using some Natur-ally yarn in a beautiful coral colour, but lost momentum. I’ve decided, given the handsome yardage I have with the Araucania, I’ll use this yarn instead. Perhaps a single colour bulb? or I may add a CC, depending how I feel?!
Yarn: using the last of the yarndale 2015 yarn. I paid £5 per skein - which is brilliant value. The yarn itself knits up lovely, the sort of fabric that appears not to require much blocking; as the stitch definition is beautiful and the fabric has great hold/shape. Soft and light, I really have done well with my Yarndale purchases.
Colour: a vibrant aqua-green. I seem to have really taken to greens at Yarndale, having also picked this yarn up! I wonder what will be my ‘theme’ at Edinburgh Yarn Festival…

I’ve separated sleeved at 17” (not 20” as pattern specifies ), as I really didn’t want my armpits to sit too low - this is a perfect fit for me and separation point ascertained by trying on the garment (no genius, mathematical, methodology).
-
despite separating early, I had attained the correct amount of sleeve/body increases for my sizing.
-
I’ve commenced body increases from 2” and continued these increases, every 2” until work measured (from underarm) 14”.
-
I’ve then knitted in the MC intill body measured 19” - again, I have acquired a for that works for me.
-
I’ve added a CC on the sleeve at 5”“ point, for 4” and then cast off. I’ve maintained 2 st decrease every 1” approx.
Gauge: I’ve worked with a 3mm needle, which has meant that I have a slightly smaller finished garment than the pattern spec. This is no issue for me, as I prefer my garments fitting.
Overall: What a lovely design. I adore the neckline and the way the sleeves/shoulders sort of wrap around your body. I love the (not too) low armpit and I like the length of the garment (though I have modified fit/length). Love the spring-colour of the yarn and so I’m absolutely thrilled with the outcome.
Nb. Wasn’t sure about the addition of the Elderberry to the sleeves, but actually, having seen the photos, I really like the pop of colour and I think, it works well (I do like a bit of ‘non conformity’ to my clothing and a little twist, which the Holst Garn provides). Perhaps not to everyones liking, but it’s very me!
