21/09/14 Marion’s body is completed. All very straightforward and looking good so far.
24/10/14 This cardigan only took me a couple of weeks to knit but I was combining it with another project and also went away a couple of times which is why it took a bit longer to finish.
The only modification I made was to make the sleeves full rather than 3/4 length. I work in a huge air conditioned room which gets pretty cold and this would make the cardigan far more practical and wearable for my needs.
My gauge was spot on and with the increased length of the sleeves aside from my tension swatch I only had a couple of metres of yarn left over.
Even though this was the first seamless garment I had knitted I found this knit straightforward. Andi’s pattern instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The only issue I had was that it took me three attempts before I was happy with my short row pick up for the first sleeve. I used a short circular needle until the last decrease and then switched onto DPNs. This was the first time I had used DPNs as well. After this I whizzed through the second sleeve.
To ensure that I had enough stretch I cast off the sleeve cuffs and neckband with a 6mm needle and used ‘the “miraculous” stretchy bind off’ technique which I discovered via http://techknitting.blogspot.co.uk to get a stretchier cast off on the bottom rib.
This was the first time I have knitted one of Andi’s patterns. It certainly won’t be the last!!!
MAY 2019 UPDATE
I can’t believe that it’s four and a half years since I finished my Marion. It has had a lot of wear since then and both the pattern and yarn have held up incredibly well. I still love the design and the yarn hasn’t pilled at all. I would definitely recommend Knit Picks Wool of the Andes as a hard wearing pure wool work horse yarn. It has a very accessible price point and comes in a vast array of colours.
