YARDAGE ESTIMATED - used 3.055 of the 4 skeins before 2014.
Sock FO (washed/worn) weighs …gr.
Knit 4-at-a-time toe-up on circs, together with the “Sisyfus’ fussy Seta socks” project I’m knitting for a friend. Progress pic shows when I test-knit the heel on 1 of my socks, took it off the circs for that, less cumbersome.
Haven’t knit with this yarn before, so a fair bit of trying out and going back, accommodating for the stretchiness of the yarn. It knits up beautiful and fast, lies smooth even after being frogged. Taking yarn from the outside of the skeins.
Was making the striping run identical in both socks, only to find a KNOT disrupting the colour from green to blue, in the middle of the heel (Murphy’s Law: NOT the sock I test-knit the heel on…). So frogged until last colour-change, unwound the skein further to find place where striping was again running parallel to other sock, and knit on from there. It worked, they’re twins again. So far no more knots (I’m 1/3 into each of the 4 skeins).
I usually get 3 socks out of 2 skeins, so my 4 skeins should make 3 pairs. Have more Seta in cream in stash, and am craving knitting this shade up into GREEN gloves = I’ll have to use more of the blue and cream in these socks and the other Seta socks to have enough green bits left for that. So I’ll be creative from the ankle up, incorporating stripes.
20th sept:
Perhaps I should re-name these Murphy’s Law socks : my friend came by today and tried on her WIP sock, the heel sat a bit too far up the sock & could be less deep = I planned to frog it later. On doing so, I accidentally frogged the heels of MY OWN pair WIP, not hers ! Only realised that as I came upon the yarn join in the heel… Then frogged HER pair as well.
Ah well, that’s 4 more heels and about 48 rows I’ve to knit again… but the FOs will be truly made-to-measure.
HOW many heels is that so far ?
- test-knit = 1
- friend’s pair too loosely -> holey = 2
- halfway into 2nd heel on my own pair: found knot in yarn, so frogged both heels to find colour-change in yarn = 1.5
- friend’s pair: wrong place, too deep = 2
- own pair: accidentally frogged = 2
- add the heels I’ll be re-knitting = 4 11.5 heels on 4 socks ! ;)
Sept 23rd:
Friends’ socks are being knit, these are resting meanwhile. Am saving the green bits of the yarn on her socks now, only using the blue.
Oct
Decided against using the cream, used only blue stripes of the yarn for the shaft.
Still need to weave in the 40-odd ends on the 2nd sock.
Feb 2012
Five months later, I’ve finally finished the other sock ! Wore them straight away as it’s COLD. Some of the inch-long woven-in ends are working their way out with wear : use longer ends to weave in ! Put them back in.

After washing and low-heat tumble dry, they look longer than before, but stretch widthwise to fit foot. Pilling is starting on the toe (last pic) but I’m told this will stop after a while.
March 23 2013
UPDATE after 1 year, having been worn & washed a dozen times, there is some pilling. No thin spots whatsoever, there’s still that silky sheen, and pills are easily pulled off. Socks are knit loosely, I went up from my usual 2.25 mm to 3 mm with fewer stitches after swatching, as the knit fabric stretches so much widthwise. 46 st. on 3 mm FO looks long & skinny compared to a 56 st. on 2.25 mm cotton stretch sock in last pic, but both of these fit me well.
I usually knit wool/nylon sockyarns on 2.25 mm with 60 st.
