I decided to knit this for my nana because our birthdays are so close together, and I’ve never given her a decent gift in my life. I hope this will make up for all those years!
Although it’s a very slow knit, it is satisfying to see each row of leaves slowly emerge. It gives a very nice rhythm to the project.
September 29, 23:38: I’m officially half way! YEAH!
October 9: Officially hit 2/3, after having the needle partially slip out in my bag, dropping about 20 stitches… I had to improvise some lace surgery to avert a major crisis. It looks fine - the only tell-tale sign is one stitch that is slightly larger than the others, which I’m sure I can fix later.
October 15, 23:51: Hit 3/4. Another 2.5 weeks and I should be finished with the knitting!
October 23, 19:28: Just made it to 8/9! Only one pattern repeat to go!
November 1, 02:03: Blocking as we speak. Possibly useful tip: I cast off in the normal way, but using a needle 2mm thicker (4.5mm instead of 2.5mm). Worked a treat.
Final blocked measurements: 184cm x 80cm (74” x 32”).
Nov 6: Fringe done, shawl complete! Today I also took it to the Utrecht Saturday SnB group to take some nice pictures. Thanks to models Marita and Petra!
Nov 29 2010: Gave it to my Nana at the Thai restaurant. She really loved it (didn’t believe I’d made it at first!) and said she would treasure it. I managed to take a quick tungsten-saturated snapshot of her wearing it and photoshop it badly, but it still shows her smiling face! Love you Nana!
