11/21 - After trying two different yarns and three different shawl patterns, am going with this combination. Is it just me, or does anyone else really hate the look of elaborate lace shawls that use a YO, K1, YO spine all the way down the center right to the bottom edge? They just look unfinished to me…
Anyway… have now done the setup chart and the first repeat of the Yucca chart. No beads as the intended recipient is not the type. Very happy with what I’ve got going thus far. Not sure yet how many repeats I’m going to do of which charts. Size-wise I’d like to see this somewhere between the flame and the purple.
12/1 - Have done:
Yucca - 6 repeats
Agave - 3 repeats (after transition chart)
Unblocked wingspan is now about 40 inches (stretched). Moving on to final Agave chart today.
12/3 - On to edging.
12/26 - Ready to bind off. I’m curious to see this blocked, but at this point am not in love with the blend of stitch patterns, or with the way the edging ends as written. Part of the problem is mine - I should have done either more repeats of the Yucca chart, or fewer of the Agave… The balance isn’t right. Oh well. Live and learn. I have no doubt that the recipient will still be thrilled.
NOTE: Using this bind-off - http://knitfreedom.com/bind-offs/stretchy-yarnover-bind-off
1/22 - Blocked. Screwed up the points and will probably re-soak and try again tomorrow :-(
1/23 - Blocked correctly. Used every T-pin I own, plus a whole bunch of other pins. Have not measured the finished dimensions, but it took over the entire queen bed. I am oh-so-much happier with the result. If only Ravelry didn’t mess up the orientation on half the photos…
Note to self: Used 1 full skein and broke into a second skein just for the bind-off.
2/13 - MIL’s birthday was on 2/3 and while I couldn’t be there, DH was good enough to bring me some photos. D. was suitably impressed with her gift! :-)
