Modified the pattern to get squares instead of rectangles. CO 15 and then knit to 15 garter ridges before binding off and turning to pick up 14 (15 sts total including last st of BO). Continued as written in pattern.

For joining, I picked up stitches along the bound off edge of the square, knit to 7 garter ridges and then grafted to the bound off edge of the next square (seaming would have been faster, but I didn’t want the bulk).

For the border, I picked up along the edges and added the border one side at a time just as if it was one of the individual squares. Instead of binding off before turning to the next side, I just knit an extra row and used the live stitches for an i-cord bind off using the Noro.
