Notes

Followed pattern as written, no mods at all to the pattern except using a lighter weight yarn. I need a 100% mindless project right now and want this to be more scarf-like than a wide shawl.

  • Two full hanks of Copaca DK.
  • Finished measurements: 10” x 72” (with pleats)
  • Stitch pattern is 4” long.

Placing stitch markers helpful in preventing errors:

  • On Row 1 of pleat section, a set of four stitch markers of the same colour after stitches 9, 27, 45 & 63.
  • On Row 2 of pleat section, a set of three stitch markers a different colour from the first set after stitches 18, 36, 56.
  • Attach a removable marker on the edge of the “wrong side row” and move it to the other edge at the beginning of the new repeat.

02 February 2023: All done! A surprisingly relaxing knit despite how complicated it looks. I had to pay attention through the first rows of the pattern to understand what was going on and how everything worked. Markers were placed as noted above through the second repeat. After that, smooth sailing. Any errors (purls that should have been knits and vice versa) were easily corrected as I passed them from above.

Once completed, the scarf was soaked in Soak wool wash for a few hours, water extracted with a large salad spinner and then rolled in a thick towel and pressed. Laid out flat to dry, but the knit pleats were pinched together, which also folded the purl pleats on the other side (see photo). No pinning. Left alone until completely dry, and voila! beautiful pleats.

The wool and alpaca was grown on Disdero Ranch, a small ranch located in the beautiful North Thompson Valley of British Columbia. If you’re interested in knowing more about Disdero Ranch or in a yarn / fibre purchase, www.disderoranch.com.
