Notes

Took a bit of a knitting break for a couple of months. So nice to return with a great pattern and beautiful wool in my hand.

20Aug2019

  • Collar completed

15Sep2019

  • Shoulders completed. There’s a lot of shaping occurring at the top of the shoulders. Definitely need quiet time to do it correctly.

19Sep2019

  • Bottom band completed. Way too long; way too loose. Argh!! Redo.

20Sep2019

  • Bottom band completed…

21Sep2019

  • and attached: Put right sides of body and band together, tacked evenly along, and then chain stitched together with crochet hook using the live stitch from the body.
  • Short garter stitch side of front band completed. I-cord bind off: Did not cast on 3 stitches. Instead, one row of i-cord on first 3 stitches, shift these 3 to left needle, knit 2 stitches, k2tog tbl to bind off, etc., until last 6 stitches on needle. I-cord one row on first 3 stitches and kitchener stitch these 3 stitches to last 3 stitches.

30Sep2019

  • Fronts completed. Picked up one stitch per row, but concerned it may not have been enough. Wider front seems better, so perhaps I didn’t pick up loosely enough on the shorter front. Let’s see what it looks like after blocking.

02Oct2019

  • Pockets: Started by leaving a very long tail before picking up held pockets stitches, then knit 37 rows in stocking stitch, cast off, and whip stitched pocket flap to body using the long tail.

03Oct2019

  • Picked up 15 stitches underarm instead of 12 for a little extra room.
  • Finished both sleeves and altered the cuff design slightly. I liked musyandra’s cuffs, so copied them. Provisionally cast on 13 stitches and knit up exactly as collar band but with double amount of rows as live on sleeve.
  • Crocheted band to live stitches on sleeve (as I did on the bottom band). Very happy with result.
  • To heck with sleeve island, I say! I stayed up all night getting them done though. Ha-ha.

04Oct2019

  • Laurie and I headed out early for Vancouver to set up the Disdero Ranch booth for the Knit City 2019 fibre show, but without buttons affixed to my Mrs. Garter. In fact, I had no buttons at all but hoped to pick some up along the way. Somehow.
  • By late afternoon, we were done, but still no buttons. We leave to have dinner and a good night’s rest at our host’s residence.
  • A miracle! Trish, our fabulous host, has a large sewing basket of buttons. I dig around and find the most exquisite buttons, and they’re perfect for Mrs. Garter. It’s almost like Mrs. Garter knew she would meet up with Trish to get her buttons. Take a look.

I still can’t believe it. Buttons aren’t everything… but almost. Now she has to get blocked.
