I had a bit of yarn leftover from the Tiriltunge Onesie, so I improvised this hat to go with it.

1. CO 80 stitches with smaller needles
2. (K1, P1) around for 6 rows, switch to larger needles
3. K4, P2, K4, P4, K4, P2, K to end of row for 2 rows
4. K4, P2, 2/2 Left Cable, P4, 2/2 Right Cable, P2; K4 then begin trefoil pattern until end of round (I knit an additional 1 stitch before the first decrease to offset the pattern, which doesn’t leave it perfectly centered)
5. Continue the cables and lacework as established in onesie pattern until total hat length is 4.5”
6. Decreases: (SSK, K2Tog, continue 16 stitches in pattern) until end of round
7. Continue in pattern until last stitch; move that stitch to beginning of next row to decrease
8. Repeat Rows 6 and 7, decreasing stitches between decreases by 2 each repeat
9. Continue until 8 stitches remain, then BO and finish

If I made this again, I’d cast on another stitch at the beginning of the row (for 81 total stitches) and begin the trefoil lace patterns right before/after the purled columns (and start the decreases after that first stitch, which would result in an odd number in the last section between decreases).
