I just knit until it looked like it was about the right size, since no dimensions were given in the pattern.
Off the needles, it measures about 46” along the eyelet edge, 36” along the opposite edge, and 30” along the bind-off edge.
Had buttons in my stash that worked really well - score!
I think it would probably be fine with anywhere from 3 to 5 buttons, so if you have some you really want to use, but only 3 or 4 of them, give it a try.
I like this project a lot! Really nice idea for probably any yarn that is at least worsted-weight that’s something soft you’d want to have cuddled around your neck. Just be sure to knit it with large enough needles that it has lots of drape.
The Laramie yarn is soft and very squishy knit up in garter stitch. The slight texture of the yarn and the semi-solid dye make the knit fabric look sort of like chenille, even though the yarn is pretty even. I’d like to see some of this in one of the natural colors.
It’s not intuitive to figure out how to wrap this correctly around your neck so that it buttons properly - I usually need to stand in front of a mirror. But this is how to do it:
Hold the scarf so that the edge with the buttons runs vertically down your body on your left side. The edge with the eyelets should be running diagonally across your body to the lower right. Take the upper corner of the triangle (at your left shoulder, above the buttons) and pull it behind your neck and to your right shoulder. Then take the corner that is at your lower right and wrap it over your right shoulder, behind your neck, over the top of your left shoulder and down (the edge with the eyelets will be the uppermost edge as you wind it around your neck). This aligns the buttons and buttonholes properly so that it looks like the pattern photo.
