I just started this shawl for my friend Eric’s wedding. His bride loves teal and I’ve had this yarn hanging around for a long time. She’s not a super-girly girl, but I really want to go all out and show off so I picked this stunning pattern to knit for her so I can show off ;)
quick note:
although the pattern says to disregard the center stitch on chart 3 and work the stitches all the way across the shawl, I was unable to do that. The number of stitches only worked out if I maintained the center stitch (and even though the written instructions say there isn’t one, the chart itself reflects the center stitch and requires you to keep flanking it by YO’s every odd row). I made this adjustment and my shawl went perfectly until I hit the final chart row and encountered more of the same.
I had to rip back the full row because I couldn’t knit the final chart straight across (ignoring the center stitch again, as instructed for the second time in the pattern). I’m going to try it again today, continuing to treat the center stitch as a I always have and hope that the stitch count I have will still work.
Clearly there is a simple error in the written portion of the pattern but so many other people managed to complete the shawl without mentioning an error (no errata appears on the pattern page) so I think this is most likely what they did.
7/5/13 Man, I must have been tired because I didn’t see the other pattern pages mentioning how to fix the error on the last chart. Oh well. She loved it just the same :)
