I had such high hopes for this pattern. Initially put it in my library when it was free. Loved the graph. Disappointed in the construction. The band is loose. Definitely could have used smaller needles or ribbing or both. The designer even has this on her pattern:

Sew in yarn ends. Wet block over dinner plate taking care not to stretch garter band.
Too Late Not sure how you get the band over the dinner plate without stretching it.

The majority of the shape is obtained by blocking it over the plate as a seen in the pictures. This pattern has only one increase row where there is usually at least two for shaping a beret. When blocking put the bottom of the plate to the top of the hat. Ending up with more of a slouch than a beret. Real shame.
