10.19.09 :: I had some requests for instructions on the linings so, quick and dirty, here you go:

The sewing involved is very simple. When your mitten is finished, blocked, and dry, lay it out and trace around it with a half in seam allowance. I cut the bottom of the fleece so the raw edge was 1/2” below where the ribbing met the stockinette. Cut 2 pieces of fleece in this shape for each mitten. Sew the pieces right sides together with a short straight stitch along the outer edge using up your 1/2” seam allowance (to make it easier to round those corners etc) leaving the bottom open. Trim excess fabric very close to seams… 1/8” -1/4” in fine as long as your stitching is nice. Fleece doesn’t fray. Insert the linings into the mittens, turn the bottoms down toward the inside of the mitten and hand stitch to the point where the ribbing turns to stockinette. Turn the mitten inside out and hand tack the lining to the mittens and the top, tip of the thumb and the point where the gusset joins so the linings don’t go inside out when the mittens are removed.

10.15.09 :: These came out pretty darned awesome. She’s been wearing them already this week as it’s quite cold. I’ll have to snap some finished shots… The lining is so snuggly and warm and I lanolized the outers with some spray lanolin for water resistance. Now I want a pair.

10.13.09 :: Knitting done. Tried them on her and they have decent growing room which is likely to be eaten up by the fleece linings. No matter though… these match a hat and sweater set that she will outgrow this year too. I will save them all for my youngest to wear in a few years. Plus Isobel has declared she is more sophisticated than “Girly Rainbow” now (though I think that’s more head than heart for her lol).

10.12.09 :: Well it was so long between when these went into hibernation and when they came out her little hands grew and I had to frog back the top and the thumb and knit them a little longer. She’s also decided she would rather have them lined with fleece instead knitted linings. Oh well… I’ll get to try the double mittens for Annie then.

02.05.09 Reversible mittens by request of my daughter. Girly Rainbow on tone side and pink on the other. One down, one to go… she’s getting desperate.
