Remember the Circular Crochet Cast On from Block 1? You get to use it again. The one note I can make with using a crochet hook to cast on is use one that will allow you to make the stitches small enough. A large hook will give you huge cast on stitches. Here is a video on how to do it:

This is a great time to use the magic loop method! You will notice when you work this block that if you are using DPNs, its a challenge to not lose a yarn over when it’s worked either right at the end of a side or right before a cable. If you are interested in trying the magic loop method, here is a great video to show you how:

And, if you want to be one of the brave souls that cables without a cable needle, here is a video on how to do it:

If you do decide to use the magic loop method, use stitch markers to separate your sides so you know where the repeats of the pattern happen. If you choose to use DPNs be ready to use 6 needles at once. It’s possible but it can be tricky.
If you are new to chart reading, set the written version next to the chart and see if you can follow along by looking at both versions. Remember this pattern is worked in the round so every row of the chart is worked from right to left. You will notice that the numbers are all on the right side of the chart, this is a good way to tell how the chart is worked.
Don’t get hung up on the definitions, they are given 2 ways, one for those using a cable needle and the other for those that want to try cabling without a needle. This pattern is a great one to try this method as the cables are all 2 stitches and it has the potential to speed up your knitting.
