9/13 - Cast on 110 stitches last night, but I consider my starting date today.
My plan was to use Knit Picks Palette to make a rainbow blanket for my nephew. I ordered the yarn, and then realized that a blanket that size in fingering weight yarn would take me until about Total Batty Time, 2014 to finish. So I put it on hold.
Then, Sept. 9th came, and my nephew was being born. While waiting in the caf with her family while my sis-in-law Julia got some sleep, I went to Facebook on my phone to show my mother-in-law the baby shower pics Julia had posted. Now, Julia had forbidden all guys from her baby shower except her husband, and her gay guy friends. She took a pic of her guy friends all together and put it on FB.
When Julia’s uncle saw the pic, it launched him into a tirade against LGBT folks and gay marriage. It was epically misguided, riddled with Bible verses, and Did. Not. Stop. I tried to change the subject several times (there’s no arguing with people like that) but he wasn’t to be stopped. Finally, I turned to him and told him that I believed God was the only person who could judge, not he or I. It stopped him for a while.
So… my point? Now I’m making this for Julia to protest her homophobic uncle. I hope she uses it every time she sees him. She’s going to love it.
9/15 - Did I mention that there will be 35,420 stitches in this blanket? swoon
9/19 - Four colors down, three to go!
9/23 - Finished! Ends all tucked in too. I absolutely love the colors together. Even the little pile of ends on the table makes me smile.
