Notes

This was the absolute hit of the shower. Family members were commenting on it weeks later. :) totally worth the smurf effect.

Besides the darkest blue turning me into a Smurf, I loved working with this yarn and I’m not into cotton. It washed up beautifully with no bleeding issues. I did one cold/cold wash with color catchers and an extra rinse followed with a hot dry. I then did the same set up but with a warm/cold cycle. Love the effect.

For each block I did three garter ridges of each color used for the cross, then finished with the border color. Example in dark border block: 3 white, 3 light, 3 mid, finish with dark.

After joining my blocks, I picked up and knit on a garter stitch border with 4 garter ridges of each of the mid blues increasing one stitch at each end of an edge on every knit row.

9.1.2011 I switched to a 12 block design of 4 rows of 3. I’m currently working on the outermost border.

Inspired by fellow Ravelers projects Denim Love and Denim Square Baby, I’ve opted to do a Mitered Cross type baby blanket for a cousin’s first baby. She’s having a boy so I thought the Denim would look great.

At this point, it’s going to be 9 blocks, 5 dark with light crosses and 4 light with dark crosses in a checkerboard layout. After all 9 are joined, I’ll do a garter border of the two mid blue tones in the round with mitered corners.
