Right around the time I was asked to make a baseball themed baby set Repeat Crafter Me posted about making a basketball rug on her site. Perfect!
I couldn’t find the colors I needed in the bulky weight yarn she used, so I just quadrupled some WW and began. I just kept going steady until I used pretty much all 4 skeins of white yarn, which honestly didn’t take long.

Rather than sew on decorative lines I used surface slip stitching, which I thought would be easier but it probably worked out to be the same amount of trouble.

So the more I looked at it, the less I liked the surface slip stitches. Just wasn’t happy. Then I finished the Blanket, and since I was going for something more delicate on that I took the time to stitch on some Vs, and OF COURSE I loved it so much more than the slip stitching on the rug. SO I bit the bullet and frogged the slip stitches and embroidered on some Vs. YES. SOOO much happier with it now! Plus I didn’t realize, but the tension of the slip stitches was what was making the rug lay a little funky, so the Vs helped even it out and lay flat.
Moral of the story? Take the time to do it right~!
