I decided to give this a go having been encouraged by others on Ravelry who have adapted patterns beautifully….and because he is my favourite BP character and I couldn’t find a pattern anywhere. So, I knitted up a separate white front panel in snowflake..though I would have preferred a kinder wool to work with but had none to hand.
I altered the head shape to make it smaller and pointier and improvised the claws by grafting the two sides together, breaking the yarn to leave a metre plus end threaded onto a needle then knitting and decreasing to a point for each claw and sewing the end in ready to make the next one. I might try this technique again with fiddly hands etc. I ran out of the amazing eyelash wool before the end of the tail so have had to get more from ebay….he needs this wool for the ears too.
I’m hoping the end result will be a suitable toy to add to the BP collection on display in my favourite shop (The National Trust of Guernsey Victorian Shop and Parlour)!
My ebay wool arrived and I finished him with a couple of hours work. He stands (hurrah!) with a little manoeuvring. I improvised a pattern on the spot for the pointy ears having tried and failed to adapt the original Timmy Tiptoes version, and, if I made the second one any different, it doesn’t show. Eyelash yarn is very forgiving!
