Knitting Olympics & Ravelympics project for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics
Hoping to squeeze this in between midterms and studying/travelling during reading week.

Feb 10th - Ok, so I’ve swatched, as you can see in the picture - I think I’m going to go with the swatch on the far right since the light blue just pops too much for me in the others. I’m also very seriously considering modifying this to have a hem instead of the seed stitch border. I was undecided, but then TangledTwine mentioned in the sweater event thread that with a hem I could write ‘Ravelympics 2010’ in the inside and I thought that would be really cool. So I’m going to do more research on hems, and it will probably be in a contrasting colour, the darker green from the swatches.

Feb 12/10 - getting so close now!! I’m really excited to cast on. I spent this morning and yesterday researching hem options and swatching and I’ve decided on a sewn hem with “Olympics 2010” on the inside in knit/purl pattern instead of adding another colour to the mix! Going to knit the hem on the same # of sts as the co of the body calls for but in a 2.5mm needle (swatch in blue shown in pictures)

Feb 16/10 - Have hit a few bumps in the road… I did get the hem done, wrote “2010 Olympics”, however I first wrote Oylmpics instead, and so fixed that by dropping each stitch in the Y & L down to the start of the letters and picking them up in the proper pattern. After the hem I was working along fairly well and actually finished the waist shaping before discovering one side was not exactly on the side… So I dropped back the problem stitches as you can see in a picture and knit them back up, but unfortunately shifted the decreases in the wrong direction! So after taking a step back I decided to rip it back to the start of the decreases, so I ended up having a 5” set-back last night :(
-
Feb 19/10 - almost finished the body and then decided to try it on, it didn’t fit (sooo big!), so I’ve ripped back again (ohmygoodness what am I doing?!?!), and plan to change up the decreases to go from a size 36 in the hip to a size 32 in the bust, don’t know if I can do it
-
Feb28/10 - FINISHED!! Wow, can’t believe I actually made it! I’ll be sewing in the ends during the closing ceremonies, so excited!

Apr24/10 - The arms are a bit short, despite making them longer than the pattern called for (I think…) and I decided it was bothering me too much. So a couple weeks ago I picked out the underarm grafting, with difficulty because the underarms had begun felting, and set it aside to work on later. Today I picked it up and picked out a row of stitches between the yoke and the sleeve to separate them and then added 25 rows (~3”) to the first sleeve. I’ve separate the second sleeve and need to lengthen it now and then I’ll have to graft both sleeves back onto the body. The sweater does however make a very nice short sleeved shirt! :) Sorry for the bad pictures, wanted to get some before finishing the adjustment but my camera is dead so I had to resort to the webcam…
-
Apr 25/10 - Apparently I really don’t want to study for my exam :) I finished lengthening the second sleeve and grafted both sleeves back onto the body. The grafting’s a bit uneven but I’m hoping it will even out with blocking and wear. I can’t believe I added 3 whole inches to the sleeves, but they actually fit now so definitely worth it!
Queue notes: already have Tidepool Heather (green/bluish), just need main colour (brown?), red, yellow and blue
Size 3 (3.25mm) (or Size 4?) getting gauge
