Notes

I loved this sweater the moment I saw it but living in a hot humid climate wool was not an option so I chose a 2 ply silk, used 4 strands at a time with 4 mm needles, perfect to try out marled and fair isle with silk.

I love the outcome, the pattern is clear and allows you to fly through the design. With 230 g this lightweight shirt will be a favorite this summer.

Difference in fabric to consider:

  • Silk has no stretch factor, what you
knit is what you get, choosing the
size I allowed for freedom of
movement. Silk tends to stretch after blocking, in this case it got wider
and the fabric evened out nicely.
  • I changed sleeve / body increases to every 2 row either or because when they fall on the same row it creates holes in the fabric.
  • Fair Isle totally doable but I misjudged gauge. Silk has no stretch - I should have added stitches to allow enough flexibility, fabric didn’t stretch as in SS. Redo the sleeve, increase stitches to size L for sleeve section, knit with 3.5 mm for better control of fair isle.
  • Folded hem what a beauty and a nice finish for the sweater. The bands stretched out more than the rest of the sweater, flared. Will redo, knit the bands with 3,0 mm, last row before fold until 2. row after fold go down to 2.5 mm to prevent flaring.
  • I had to change the wonderful neckline, silk didn’t stand up to the job. I opted for a folded band as done for the hemline but the outside marled, the inside grey, love the outcome.
  • I didn’t sew the folded Bands but chose to do a 3-needle bind off. I like the finish better, cleaner look.
