I sent up for various sizes of circular and double-pointed needles to practise with during the long days of lockdown. Dpns not so successful but circular needles slightly more so - though I lost count of the number of times I got into a tangled mess and had to start again! Finally produced a plain toe-up sock in some spare variegated yarn (lovely colours in the ball but an ugly effect knitted up, sadly). Great for practising the techniques, though it doesn’t fit very well so I’ll probably never make its partner! Followed the Fish Lips Kiss heel design (thank you Alice!) - simple even for a beginner like me, though it came out a bit too big so I’ll try to adjust it next time.

Second attempt in red, with a simple knit/purl stitch pattern from Hermione’s Everyday Socks - really happy so far.

First red sock finished! I followed a great tutorial on YouTube for the Turkish cast-on - https://youtu.be/cMKdC2U-FMg, using a smaller needle to keep it tight, then transferred to the larger size for the rest of the sock, changing back to the smaller size for the 3 X 3 rib. All I have to do now is make another…

Finished the second sock and it actually matches the first! They fit perfectly but are very thick and cosy so I won’t be wearing them until the winter.

Never thought my knitting would be up to making socks so I’m thrilled to have acquired a new skill. Can’t wait to make some more… socks
