Couldn’t resist this little box of delights! 50 perfect little 20g balls arranged in mouthwatering shade order, marketed for amigurumi but just crying out to be made into a luscious colourful throw. I designed a small textured square which can be made from almost one whole ball - planning a 6 x 7 layout (leaving out 8 colours including black and white), then using a much larger amount of similar white dk cotton for a decorative continuous join and wide border.

Normally I would find it a bit tedious making so many squares all the same, but they are quick to hook and each one of the 10 rounds is different, so the pattern stays interesting and is easy to memorise. The colour progression adds extra variety.

Finished all 42 squares - waiting for delivery of white cotton. In danger of overthinking the colour order - I’ve changed things around at least four times now .

Make that seven or eight times… I’ve even substituted some other shades and brands of cotton DK just to get the colour balance right.

The white joining/edging cotton has arrived and I’m making good progress, though I must say it’s not the easiest yarn to work with. It’s very coarse and linen-like, not smooth and silky like the Happy colours - probably makes great dishcloths . Happy with the overall look so far. I love the stitch definition of cotton in a textured pattern like this but the lack of ‘give’ in the yarn is very hard on the fingers!

Early November - all complete! Finished off with a fairly plain wide white edging. I wouldn’t make such a large project in cotton again as it was quite hard going. Still in love with all those colours though .
